Graphite and collage on paper
160 x 110cm approx
One of the last remaining drawings in this series of artworks created from Ian Murphy’s fascination with temples and Pagoda roofs, first observed on his visits to the summer and winter palaces in China. In
this particular drawing, the emphasis is on the beautiful flowing motion of the temple roof line, gradually fading into the atmospheric mist. The sensitive handling of the graphite sits softly on the subtle surface texture in the foreground and creates a thin veil over the Chinese calligraphy.
